Post Box Decal

Tent stitch is a small, diagonal needlepoint stitch that crosses over the intersection of one horizontal (weft) and one vertical (warp) thread of needlepoint canvas forming a slanted stitch at a 45-degree angle. It is also known as needlepoint stitch and is one of the most basic and versatile stitches used in needlepoint and other canvas work embroidery. When worked on fine weave canvas over a single warp and weft thread it is known as petit point in contrast to stitches, such as Gobelin, worked over multiple warp and/or weft threads.

'Petit point' comes from the French language, meaning 'small point' or 'dot'.

Half cross tent stitch

There are three types of tent stitch, all producing the same appearance on the front of the canvas but each worked in a slightly different way and having particular characteristics, uses, benefits and drawbacks. These variants of tent stitch are known as basketweave, continental and half cross tent stitches:[1]

  • Basketweave tent stitch
The basketweave form of tent stitch is worked in diagonal rows up and down the canvas. The yarn on the back of the canvas has a typical basketweave appearance, with alternating horizontal and vertical stitches. Basketweave is the best stitch to cover large areas of canvas as it distorts the canvas least and gives the firmest backing to the work, provided it is worked in diagonal rows alternately ascending and descending so that the yarn in ascending rows is laid over warp threads and in descending rows is laid over weft threads:[2]
  • Continental tent stitch
Continental stitch is worked horizontally or vertically across the canvas. On the back of the work, the stitches appear diagonally across two threads. This method uses more yarn than half cross stitch tent stitch but is more hardwearing.
  • Half cross tent stitch
Half cross stitch is worked horizontally or vertically across the canvas. On the back of the work, the stitch appears vertical or horizontal, not diagonal, and crosses only one thread. This method uses less yarn than other stitches but is not very durable as coverage on the back of the canvas is a little thin.

What is a resin kit?

Post Box Decals

The main diference with a plastic kit is the fact you will have to clean the different parts, as the casting method uses silicon rubber moulds, which can let some layer of silicon on the parts, which can spoil the paint work.
Two solutions for cleaning : you can use aceton, and dip the parts of the kit for some seconds, then let dry (a fortnight), it is for me the easiest way ; aceton can be easily found and you can use it again ! Or you may use gentle hot water and cleaning powder with and old toothbrush, longer, and not realy easy for small parts.
The other advantage is that you have no mould lines on the body, preparation for painting is therefore more easy.

How to build a resin kit?

After having verified you get all the parts, please, read the instructions! There you will find the color references and the building order that will permit you to get a well finished model.
First, be sure to have some useful tools, basic for modeling:
-some small files, flat, round, square, triangular……
-sandpaper fine, medium.
-a small drill machine with Ø 0.5mm, 1 mm, 1.2 mm and 1.5 mm.
-small pliers, with square and point ends.
-a good cutting tool for the wheel axes.
-some glues of different types, cyanoacrylate for current work, epoxy two parts, a vinyl glue for the windows….
-for the paint, use Humbrol or Tamiya…for the small parts and detail and finish, you can use spray cans, but the best results will be obtained with a spray gun and acrylic or automotive paints. To figure the orange or red lights, first apply a coat of aluminium paint then use Tamiya clear colors.

You are now ready to begin!
